Technology
The technology that seems best suited for this problem in my classroom would be Chromebooks. Chromebooks are cost effective for a classroom setting and include a keyboard, which is important when conducting research and publishing information. Typing skills are also a Common Core State Standard for fourth grade (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.6). Additionally, with Chromebooks, students can use Google Docs and other Google apps to collaborate with one another. This is important for this project, as students will be working with one another to research, design and publish news stories. Other technology options for this project could be an iPad or a tablet; however, these devices do not have keyboards and they do not support all websites and tools from the Internet.
The use of Chromebooks will also allow students to publish their newspaper in the form of an infographic. To create their infographic, students will use the website easelly. I chose to use this website over another website like Piktochart because easelly allows the user to create a group that can be shared with others. Because collaboration is an important component of this project, easelly will allow students to create groups so they can share their newspaper infographics with one another and work together.
